Something about me
Imagine doing something you love. Something that you become so focused on, everything else fades away. Pottery is one of those things for me. I fell in love with pottery when I was a kid at a Parks & Recreation class, long before there were electric wheels. The 'magic' of science of a lump of clay turning into a decorative and/or usable item inspired me.
Even though pottery hadn't been in my life for decades, it never left me. Pottery came back into my life at a perfect time, and I don't plan on being without it again.
I create both functional and decorative pottery. The form and function of my pottery are important to me and I also find that what draws me deeper into the process is the final color of my pieces. To achieve the desired finish, I primarily layer glazes. Layered glazes interact while they fire in the kiln, which usually creates spectacular and sometimes unexpected results. Opening a kiln after your pieces have been glazed and fired is like opening a present, sometimes you don't know what you are going to get, good or bad.
